Syria’s Aleppo Sees Gradual Return in Security, Stability
Writing on X, the US social media platform, Azzam al-Gharib provided assurances to citizens that "the security situation is witnessing a gradual return to stability in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, so that the city may return to a state of safety and stability."
The governor declared that "the page of anxiety has been turned," emphasizing that Aleppo "has returned safe with its people—strong in their unity and fortified by their will."
Al-Gharib highlighted ongoing security operations, stating that "the relevant authorities are continuing their field work on an ongoing basis to stabilize security and ensure the return of normal life in all neighborhoods." He expressed optimism that "Aleppo today is safe, and tomorrow it will be even more stable, God willing."
His comments followed the departure of the final YPG/SDF fighters from Aleppo's Sheikh Maqsoud district, as reported by a Syrian news agency.
According to the news agency, militants were transported via buses and ambulances after agreeing to evacuation conditions, with an additional group removed from Yasin Hospital to the same location.
Syria's state television, referencing security officials, confirmed these departing fighters represented the last YPG/SDF militants exiting Aleppo, noting that Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh districts now fall under Syrian Army jurisdiction.
The fighters are being relocated to Tabqa, a town situated west of the Euphrates River within YPG/SDF-controlled territory.
Military forces had previously suspended all combat operations in Sheikh Maqsoud as of 3 pm local time (1200GMT) Saturday, the army confirmed.
Beginning Tuesday, the YPG/SDF group launched artillery attacks targeting residential areas, civilian infrastructure, and Syrian Army installations throughout Aleppo, resulting in 23 fatalities, over 100 injuries, and forcing approximately 165,000 residents from the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods to flee, according to government statistics.
