CENTCOM Confirms Strikes on ISIS Targets in Syria

(MENAFN) U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), alongside allied forces, announced Saturday that it had conducted extensive strikes against several ISIS (Daesh) positions in Syria.

The attacks, carried out around 5:30 p.m. GMT, were part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, which began on December 19 under President Trump’s orders following a deadly December 13 assault by the extremist group on American and Syrian troops in Palmyra.

The ambush claimed the lives of two U.S. service members and one American civilian interpreter.

According to CENTCOM, Saturday’s strikes were intended to "root out Islamic terrorism," safeguard American personnel, avert future assaults, and protect both U.S. and partner forces in the region.

"U.S. and coalition forces remain resolute in pursuing terrorists who seek to harm the United States.

Our message remains strong: if you harm our warfighters, we will find you and kill you anywhere in the world, no matter how hard you try to evade justice," the statement declared.
