France Reinforces Dedication to Syria’s Recovery

(MENAFN) French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Tuesday reinforced France's dedication to facilitating Syria's rehabilitation, infrastructure rebuilding and economic resurgence while expanding bilateral collaboration across various sectors.

The commitment emerged from diplomatic talks in Paris between Barrot and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani.

A Syrian Foreign Ministry statement revealed that both officials examined shared priorities and strategies to deepen strategic alliances between the two nations.

France additionally signaled that its corporate sector stands prepared to recommence business activities within Syria, the statement confirmed.

Barrot emphasized "France's commitment to backing Syria's path toward recovery, reconstruction and economic revitalization, as well as expanding bilateral cooperation," the statement added.

On Monday, a Syrian government source disclosed that fresh diplomatic negotiations with Israel had launched under US mediation, concentrating on restoring the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

Notwithstanding the Syrian government's non-threatening posture, Israeli military forces have executed nearly continuous cross-border penetrations into Syrian areas, particularly throughout Quneitra's rural regions, apprehending residents, erecting security barriers, interrogating civilians and decimating agricultural land.

Following the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024, Israel amplified its territorial control over the Syrian Golan Heights, seizing the demilitarized buffer zone—an action that violated the 1974 bilateral accord with Syria.
