Syria Applauds US Move to Lift Sanctions

(MENAFN) Syria has expressed approval of the recent decision by the US Treasury Department to remove the country's name from sanction lists included in the Code of Federal Laws.

According to a statement released by the Syrian Foreign Ministry on Monday, this action is seen as a step in the right direction that could positively influence the nation's economic and humanitarian conditions.

The ministry's statement described the move as a "positive development in the right direction," noting that it is likely to ease trade and financial activity while lifting limitations on American exports to Syria.

The change is expected to help lessen the hardships experienced by Syrian citizens and create opportunities for broader economic and commercial collaboration between Damascus and Washington.

Syria also noted that the timing of this decision—coinciding with a second official visit from a US Congress delegation to Damascus—holds significant meaning.

It signals the potential beginning of a renewed chapter in mutual relations, one rooted in “mutual respect and constructive dialogue,” as emphasized in the statement.

As part of this diplomatic engagement, President Ahmed al-Sharaa welcomed a high-level US Congress delegation in Damascus.

The group included Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Representative Joe Wilson, and Ambassador Tom Barrack, who serves as US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for Syria.

According to the ministry, the delegation held discussions with President al-Sharaa and Syrian ministers responsible for defense, interior affairs, and social development.

These conversations focused on enhancing bilateral ties and exploring new avenues for cooperation between the two countries.
