Syria Reopens Aid Route After Tensions in Daraa
(MENAFN) On Monday, the Syrian authorities reopened the Bosra al-Sham humanitarian passageway in the southern region of Daraa, restoring the flow of aid shipments to nearby Suwayda.
This route had been temporarily blocked just a day earlier due to intense armed confrontations.
According to a news agency, quoting an insider from the Interior Ministry, the crossing became operational again once the surrounding territory was secured and “the threat posed by armed groups was removed.”
This route has recently played a crucial role in transporting relief assistance and humanitarian goods to Suwayda.
However, on Sunday, operations were halted amid fierce combat between internal security elements and armed factions within the province.
The ministry explained that these armed groups breached a newly established ceasefire by launching assaults on multiple security installations located in Tal Hadid, Rimat Hazem, and Walgha.
They were also accused of escalating sectarian divisions, looting humanitarian aid, conducting illegal detentions, and bombarding villages with “rockets and mortars,” actions that led to losses among security forces.
The Interior Ministry emphasized that since the beginning of the truce, government efforts have focused on restoring order and safeguarding civilians.
Sunday’s violence is part of a broader trend of continued disturbances and armed incidents that have plagued Suwayda in recent months.
